4. NETWORK VIEWS

These foundations allow us to create the network view of the smart grid. A combination of graph theory and its underlying tools help transform the DSM into a very informative and valuable network view.  Based on the DSM the figure below shows a network view of NIST text representing information flows. The network view and the DSM are based on exactly the same data and information, but they differ considerably in explanatory value.

The network view in the figure above identifies the nodes central to the Smart Grid. Of course, the network view is possible only because of the details provided by the NIST conceptual view of information flows that helps direct the analysis to the relevant supporting tables so essential for building the DSM.

Other views can be derived to generate information of interest to the user.
